One of three antique Steiff dolls I am offering this week.
They may have been together as a family unit, but I have split them up for auction.
This auction is for an antique Steiff character man.
He is all original, except is missing one of his shoes.
He measures approx. 18" long, but is probably taller as his knees are permanently flexed.
He does not have a Steiff button, but I am confident he is a steiff character doll from approx. 1920.
He is not perfect and needs TLC.
I have lots of pictures for you to see of
his condition.
Starting from the top, he has some dust on his face along with some small moth or
pin
holes, but head is in overall good condition.
Brown glass eyes.
His main damage is to his right arm.
The upper part down to
and including the back of his elbow has large holes and tearing to it.
Lower part of arm and hand is fairly good and sturdy.
Left arm
has a 1/2" hold on the underside near the underarm area and a few smaller holes, hand is good.
His body is firmly stuffed.
I could not take off his pants and socks as I did not
want to cause further damage to them.
Legs feel firm and intact as well as feet.
Clothing has some small holes and wear to it, back of pants has a tear near the waistband,
but it
is
presentable but dirty.
He would book

if good condition, I am starting his bid off at where he would be expected to sell at in poor condition.
I would rate him as being better than poor,
but less than good ~ please judge him based on the pictures and description provided.
He does present fairly well as clothing covers the damage.
Clothing could use cleaning.
Do not bid on him if you are expecting a doll in better condition than shown and talked about above as this is a final sale. UPDATED based on question that I was asked in regards to their arms, so please read:
The dolls arms are sewn on, except the small boy has one disk arm and the other is sewn on.
This makes me think that the arms may have originally been all disc jointed and were sewn on perhaps due to wear?
On both the woman and man doll, the lower parts of the arms are stuffed with what feels like straw.
The upper parts have old cotton batting in them.
Could it be that the tops originally had straw in them and were disc jointed?
Any info you can give me I will add to the listings so others can read it as well.
I will also change the listings to reflect what I have answered you here. I am confident they are Steiff, each has an area on the left ear that looks like there was a button attached.

Shipping Costs:
Calculator is used and is based on actual shipping costs.
My handling fee is for insurance costs only.
Shipping costs have gone
up significantly, I do not make any money on shipping costs, so do not fault me
for the cost.
I also take extreme care and time with packing ~ I have never had a doll received by a buyer broken.
Remember, it is not only the weight that dictates the cost, but also the size of the shipping box.
If I overcharge by more than 2.00, I will refund you the difference.
To not pass on the cost of shipping
supplies to my customers and to do my part for the environment , I will use appropriate recyclable materials for packaging when they are on hand.
I also will combine items to save on shipping costs.
Shipping Time:
I ship within 3 days of
receiving Paypal payment or a MO.
Do not fault me for shipping times that are outside of my control.
Returns:
If the item you received
was not described accurately, please do let me know.
I do my best in my listings to describe the items and supply pictures, but sometimes I may miss something.
If item was not as described and this would affect the value of the item, it is returnable for a refund less shipping costs.
I do not
accept returns for buyer's remorse.
Antique dolls are fragile and I prefer to not have them going back and forth in the mail any more than necessary.
Feedback:
I
work very hard to ensure that I receive positive feedback and high DSR's
from my buyers.
PLEASE do not leave me a negative or neutral without contacting me to try to resolve whatever issue you may have.
My goal is to receive and maintain
the highest detailed seller ratings (5 on the DSR scale).
Since actual
shipping cost and time is outside of my control I expect to receive 5's on these items and
strive to receive 5's on the remaining criteria.
I am glad to leave my buyers positive feedback once they notify me that the item has arrived.
My general layaway terms:
Please contact me if you would like to arrange layaway before the auction ends.
I am quite flexible in my terms, so let me know
if
you need something other than what is mentioned here.
I require 25% down within 1 week of end of auction.
This amount is non-refundable if buyer does not follow through on making their payments as planned and no longer wants the doll.
3 equal payments are then due, 1 each 30 days for balance of purchase.
If for some reason, you need to delay a payment, please let me know ~ this is generally not a problem, however I do not want to extend layaway's to longer than 3 months unless prior arrangements have been made.
Lastly - I thank each and every buyer I have dealt with in the last 12 years.
