Here's something you rarely get chance to see any more: A brand new in the box pedal car, never assembled and complete with all parts and assembly instructions.
According to markings on the box this particular
unit was sent to and presumably sold by Arrowhead Hardware, Hwy 218 N., Waterloo, Iowa.
This style of Jet Sweep model from AMF had a long production run and I'm not sure what the exact year of production was for this particular unit.
Here's what the 1967 AMF catalog page had to say about the 501 Jet Sweep:"Body length,
34"
and body width 15". Three position pedal drive with nylon bearings. Red and white wheels with metallized hub caps. 5/8" extruded rubber tires. Metallic turquoise finish with white trim. Silver grille with embossed headlights and bumper. Attractive seat pad."
While the box itself has some wear and tear, the car is complete
with all parts, screws, washers etc. and in new unassembled
condition.
There is some very
faint
surface rust
on the two underside areas that never received paint or overspray at the factory
but nothing of any concern and I only mention for full disclosure.
Hood has a couple of very, very
light surface scratches but should polish out easily.

many, and please use the supersize function.

My passion for automobiles has always been
present ever since childhood and my first pedal car.
Deluxe pedal cars were only bought by the wealthy in the 1920’s and 1930’s but as their popularity increased and manufacturing processes evolved they became more and more affordable. By the 1950’s, when I grew up, they were commonplace in most families.
As a result pedal cars play a big part in American toy
history and have become highly prized by collectors and restorers.
In fact they have moved from the sidewalks into the living rooms for decorating and displays.
They are nice to admire under the Christmas tree or on a shelf with other collectibles. Over the years I have acquired many, mostly because I couldn’t resist the opportunity when it presented itself.
I have a basement full of vintage pedal cars that I intended at some point to restore….but never have found the time. I also have a library full of price and identification guides, not to mention smaller renditions of the classic original pedal cars by the likes of Hallmark and Xonex.
I may keep one or two examples but most if not all of my various collections will be listed here over time.
